The Nintendo Switch 2 officially launches today, June 5, 2025, marking a significant evolution in Nintendo's console lineup. Priced at $449.99 for the standard model and $499.99 for the bundle with Mario Kart World, the console introduces several hardware and software enhancements.

• Display: 7.9-inch 1080p LCD touchscreen with HDR support and a variable refresh rate up to 120Hz. 

• Dock Output: Supports up to 4K resolution at 60Hz with HDR when docked. 

• Connectivity: Includes a second USB-C port on the top, an internal microphone with noise cancellation, and a dock featuring a built-in Ethernet connector and cooling fan. 

• Controllers: New Joy-Con 2 controllers with enhanced ergonomics and functionality.

🛒 Availability

Pre-orders, which began on April 24, sold out rapidly across major retailers.  However, select stores are offering limited launch-day stock:

Best Buy: Midnight openings with limited in-store inventory. 

• GameStop: Midnight launch events with available stock. 

• Target: Stores open at 8 a.m. local time with a ticketing system for purchases. 

• Walmart: Select locations open at midnight; online availability varies. 

• Due to high demand, it's advisable to check with local retailers for specific availability and consider arriving early.

⚠️ Scalping Concerns

The high demand has led to scalping issues, with some resellers listing the console at inflated prices on platforms like eBay and Mercari.  Nintendo is collaborating with resale platforms in Japan to address this, though actions in other regions remain uncertain.

For those unable to secure a unit today, retailers are expected to restock in the coming weeks. Staying informed through official channels and setting up stock alerts can enhance your chances of obtaining the console.
