Israeli Archaeologist Finally Found The Cave Believed To Be The Resting Place of Mary's Midwife
Sometime in 1980's looters broke in to burial cave in Israel Judean Lowlands and started excavation. Since then Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA) began their lengthy dig to the site labelled as the Salome Cave, after it was thought to be the final resting place of Jesus' midwife. The same government agency is now expanding its excavation to include a 2,000-year-old tomb complex of a wealthy family.
The interior chapel of the site is dedicated to Salome and contains crosses and inscriptions in Greek, Syriac, and Arabic, which show that the site was significant from the Byzantine period to the Islamic period. According to Christian tradition, Salome was from Bethlehem and assisted in Jesus' delivery. She was a follower of Jesus and is mentioned in the gospels.
