Did you know?

To fight the aging process and reduce anxiety, most people listen to songs. Whether you love playing it over your head or dancing to the groove of music, it helps reduce blood pressure, lure you to sleep or improve your mood and entertain yourself.

Did you know that music does wonders more than what we have mentioned above?

Researchers from Japan have found out that dancing to the grooves of music not only improves our mood but also enhances our brain functions, increases mental alertness and strengthens our memory.

( From The Original Paper Source)

Professor Hideaki Soya, lead author of the peer-reviewed study said that " Groove rhythms elicit groove sensations and positive affective responses, but whether they influence executive function is unknown".

To do this, the researchers performed functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) with a color-word matching task to examine inhibitory executive function before and after listening to music.

They also conducted a survey about the subjective experience of listening to groove music.

“The results were surprising,” explains Professor Soya. “We found that groove rhythm enhanced executive function and activity in the l-DLPFC only in participants who reported that the music elicited a strong groove sensation and the sensation of being clear-headed.”

Groove rhythm stimulates prefrontal cortex function in groove enjoyers" was published in Scientific Reports at DOI: 10.1038/s41598-022-11324-3

Because of this positive effect, it can have a wide range of potential applications. For example it can prevent dementia in elderly people.
