Daniel Quizon Becomes the Philippines' 17th Chess Grandmaster After 13-Year Wait
In a stunning achievement, 20-year-old Daniel Quizon from Dasmariñas, Cavite, has earned the prestigious title of Chess Grandmaster, becoming the 17th Filipino to reach this milestone. Quizon secured his title by surpassing the required FIDE rating of 2500 after a crucial victory against Monaco’s GM Igor Efimov at the 45th Chess Olympiad in Budapest. His accomplishment ends a 13-year drought for the Philippines, last seen in 2011. His journey, supported by the Philippine Sports Commission, is set to inspire a new generation of Filipino chess talents.
